Jobs Ends Flash Era

Apple wants to end the Flash era, with regard to mobile anyway.

If there was any lingering doubt Apple intends to usher in a post- Flash era, CEO Steve Jobs put them to rest yesterday in a 1,700-word screed against the multimedia standard.

In the post, published yesterday on Apple.com, Jobs counted off many reasons Apple blocks Adobe’s Flash platform on its iPhone, iPad, and iPod devices. Among them: security and stability risks associated with Flash, its lack of open source protocols, and Adobe’s allegedly sluggish process for introducing enhancements.

“The avalanche of media outlets offering their content for Apple’s mobile devices demonstrates that Flash is no longer necessary to watch video or consume any kind of web content,” Jobs wrote. “And the 200,000 apps on Apple’s App Store proves that Flash isn’t necessary for tens of thousands of developers to create graphically rich applications.”

Seems it is time to start transfering flash websites into newer technology.

The three main political party leaders have each recorded video responses to questions submitted online by users of the social media sites.

With the May 6 election just eight days away, it will be interesting to see if the digital debate has anywhere near the impact as tomorrow’s final leaders’ debate on the BBC.

Twitter – In a Nut Shell

No brand or business should turn to Promoted Tweets or alternative Twitter advertising options for a quick win. Your audience will only respect your Twitter presence if you demonstrate that your ultimate goal is to serve their needs (and not your own). If used wisely, targeting niche audiences with Promoted Tweets could be a powerful way to use Twitter for business on a whole new level.

Social Networking Knitting Nanas

Shreddies are now using Facebook in their TV advertising campaigns. If anyone was watching Ronnie O’sullivan playing snooker last night they also have seen the Shreddies advert during the interval that starred the Leslie ‘DING DONG’ Phillips. The advert itself is not new – but what caught my eye was the find us on Facebook clip right at the end – www.facebook.com/knittingnanas. Checking out the Facebook page how they are harnessing the power of Facebook – they are running a ‘become the next knitting nana’ competition. You sign up and Facebook users can vote for you on Facebook – the winners get the gig.

Im sure it is not long before other companies start advertising their Facebook pages in front of their websites on main stream TV.
