WEBSITE OPTIMISATION
This is a guide to show you how we go about optimising your website to improve your search engine positions. We have a meeting to discuss your main 6 keywords. These are words that someone may search for on the Internet to find your business, like your main services, not your business name. KEYWORD RESEARCH We research these keywords to see if they are being searched for. It is very common that clients suggest a keyword that they believe to be “exactly what they do” to find, that no one is searching for it. It can be very surprising what the results show us. You must remember not all your potential clients will know the technical terms / names for your services. We enter these keywords into the Google keyword analysis tool. This shows us all the keywords that were searched for last month that relate to this main keyword. In the results we look for low competition and a 1/5 to 1/4 bar showing in the searched for columns. Remember these are UK searches, so even though this may seem a small percentage, these could equate to thousands of searches per month. Targeting less popular keywords increases your chance of a 1st page position. 
Above you can see how these searches are displayed. In this case we searched for the keyword loft conversion. As you can see this keyword has a large competition so we may ignore this as a main keyword. You can see we have highlighted attic loft conversion – this is a keyword we may pick as it has very low competition and a reasonable search result for both last month and on average. It is also a typical keyword that you would not have expected people to be searching for. We then look at the top keywords, in this case loft conversions . We check to see if the domain name is available, for example. www.loft-conversions.co.uk . Your website will achieve a much better position if your domain name is a main keyword. We send you a full report and ask you to approve / comment on our keyword recommendations. We sometimes advise looking at miss spelt keywords, if you look at the results above you will see loft convertions (spelt with a t instead of s). Website Optimisation First we optimise your website. The idea is to make your website look attractive to the search engines. We do this is a number of different ways using the researched keywords. 1. Search Engine Friendly URL's
A URL is the actual address of your website and its pages. For example: www.loft-conversion.co.uk/contact.html
You may have noticed online that some ULR's contain funny characters like &, ? and =. Example: http://www.test.co.uk/index.cfm?pid=43&catalogueContentID=67 Search Engines do not like these characters and some will not list all of your pages as a result. These are caused when the website is database driven, the characters are commands within the code to display page content. Search Engine Friendly URL's are address that do not contain these special characters even if the website is driven by a database or has advanced features like photo galleries etc… www.loft-conversion.co.uk/pages/1/loft_company_london/dormer_conversions You can see there are keywords in the address and no funny characters. We insert your keywords into the page URL's which search engines love!!!!! 2. Web Sitemap & Google Sitemap
This is a map of your page structure which makes it easier for search engines to list your website when they come across it. If you have sub pages we make sure they are indented so it is obviously a sub page. This also creates a Google sitemap which is a direct link to Google. This tells Google all the pages you have on your website and their location on the internet. There is also a facility to inform Google when you have amended the content of a page. Google will then re-visit your website and index that specific page next time it updates itself. This is great as your page titles and page aliases all contain your keywords! The search engines like your website to be filled with relevant content. We advise that every 6 months to a year you add at least 3 / 6 new pages. 3. Advanced Meta Tag Data
Most people know about the META KEYWORDS, META TITLE and META DESCRIPTION. These are tags that we to your website which tells the search engines exactly what your page content relates to. These 3 are the basic standard set, there are actually 17 extra META TAGS that you should include on your website, these further enhance your standing / ranking in the eyes of the search engines. We make sure that every website page we optimise has individual META TAG information relevant to that pages content.  4. Six New Keyword Related Website Pages
We set up 6 new pages for you for free, with the Search Engine Start Up package. Each page is named after one of your 6 main. We ask you to write content for each page making sure you use the keyword as many times as you can without making it unreadable. We can provide a copywriting service if you do not have time. Content is the most important aspect of any website so this needs to be well written and specific. 5. Footer Links
On every website page we will add in Footer Links, these will link to the 6 new pages that we have just created for you. As the keyword will be in the title they are fantastic links which the search engines like. Website Home page Optimisation
We optimise the homepage using the latest techniques that Google, in particular, looks for when calculating your search engine position. We always keep in mind the other major search engines such as Yahoo and MSN to ensure your website has maximum exposure to each keyword search. We may need to rewrite some content on your homepage ensuring you have the correct keyword density and prominance. -- WEBSITE PAGE OPTIMISATION Once the website has been optimised and the new keyword specific content has been written and added to the website we can then optimise the specific pages for you. We need to wait at least 2 months after the content has been finished until we can do this service as the pages need to be registered with Google, which can take up to 8 weeks. We run reports on each page, for each individual search engine, to assess how well the page performs in relation to the particular search engines criteria. This process compares the number 1 organic listing on that search engine under that keyword and provides us a report showing the differences. We then tweak the page accordingly to increase your web to mimic the top listing. There is a combination or content, keyword prominence, keyword links in the body text etc…. Sometimes we need to make small changes and sometimes re-write entire sections of the page. When we are happy with the report we re-submit the pages to the search engines and update your Google Sitemap which tells Google to index the pages as a priority. REPORTING & PROPOSALS To keep you informed of what we are doing and how well it is working we offer a reporting and proposal service. If we optimise the website we would start the reporting services at the same time and after 3 months send your first detailed position report. In the report we will propose tasks and explain tips and tricks that you can do yourself to enhance your positions. These include Directory listings, competition back linking and how to create valid one-way links, which are paramount to Google success at the moment. NOTE: DO NOT JOIN A LINK EXCHANGE SERVICE – creating both way links is now deemed pointless by Google due to how much they have been abused.
